THE
FOUR CORNERSTONES OF KAPPA SIGMA
Fellowship
Want to get more from your college life? Kappa Sigma makes it
happen. Joining Kappa Sigma provides opportunities for fellowship,
fun and personal growth that you simply can't get elsewhere. Over
210,000 men have joined and enjoyed the unmatched experiences,
involvement and lifelong Brotherhood that Kappa Sigma offers.
Leadership
Take the lead. In Kappa Sigma, Brothers learn to get involved in
their communities and take the lead when something needs to be
done. Countless Brothers, including senators, governors and CEOs,
have said Kappa Sigma gave them the leadership skills they needed
to succeed.
Scholarship
You're in college for an education. Kappa Sigma helps you excel in
the classroom. From its earliest beginnings in Renaissance Italy,
Kappa Sigma has existed to promote scholarship in its members.
Over $250,000 is awarded each year by the Kappa Sigma Endowment
Fund to Brothers who excel in scholarship and leadership. At the
chapter level, Brothers help you learn about the campus, provide
advice on professors and classes and help you study for those
important assignments.
Service
Helping others is part of being a Kappa Sigma. Brothers spend
thousands of hours working in their communities and raise
thousands of dollars for worthy causes each year. From organizing
park clean-ups to serving as Big Brothers to organizing charity
rock concerts, Kappa Sigmas work hard for their causes. College is
fun, but only service gives you the great feeling of knowing
you've helped someone and made a difference.

A
statement from WGM Kaplan to our Brothers about Kappa Sigma's
greatest year:
My
Brothers:
I
am pleased to report that 2003-04 was the greatest year on record in
Kappa Sigma Fraternity history. Here are our amazing
accomplishments:
A
record, 5,309 men have pledged Kappa Sigma representing a record,
32% increase over 2002-2003. The most men pledged prior to this year
was 5,160 in 1988-89.
-
A
record, 19 Kappa Sigma colonies were established. This
represents the re-colonization of dormant chapters such as
Alpha-Sigma (Ohio State) and Kappa-Chi (College of Charleston)
and the colonization of new schools including the Rochester
Institute of Technology, our second hearing impaired group. We
now have 216 chapters and colonies across North America.
-
A
record 3,783 men have been initiated into Kappa Sigma,
representing a record, 29% increase over 2002-03. The most men
initiated prior to this year was 3,782 in 1987-88.
-
Over
$4,100,000.00 has been raised through the Renaissance Campaign
for the construction of the new Kappa Sigma International
Headquarters. Our new headquarters will be the finest
fraternal home in the world, befitting of the finest fraternity
in the world.
-
A
record low, three insurance claims have been filed against the
Kappa Sigma Fraternity. This much improved risk management
performance has resulted in one of the lowest assessments to our
undergraduates in the fraternal world.
-
Kappa
Sigma has led in the creation of the new Fraternity
Leadership Association (FLA), which was created to
positively represent our fraternal interests. The FLA now boasts
nine member fraternal organizations.
-
Our
undergraduate brothers and chapters enjoy the lowest dues and
fees in the fraternal world. We are proud to say that Kappa
Sigma has not had a dues increase since 1991.
-
Kappa
Sigma is in a strong financial position. Due to the surge in
growth, we will have one of the largest budget surpluses in
history, which will allow us to keep our costs to undergraduates
at record lows.
-
A
record number of volunteers serve the Order today by mentoring
and coaching our undergraduates.
At
the 64th Biennial Grand Conclave in Tampa, Kappa Sigma presented a
bold new vision to insure our future and return us to our rightful
place as number one. We have implemented this vision through three
new initiatives: Champion Quest, Brothers in Action and A
Greater Cause. As you can see, astounding progress is being
made.
In
fact, based on the 2002-03 Fraternity Executive Association
(FEA)
Survey, the Kappa Sigma Fraternity is now the most preferred in the
world. More men choose Kappa Sigma today than any other
fraternity.
This
past year, the Kappa Sigma Fraternity also recognized Todd R. Wagner
(Indiana '80) as our 2003 Man of the Year. Brother Wagner's love of
the Order is contagious and his generosity legendary. I know of no
other brother that better reflects the values and entrepreneurial
spirit happening in Kappa Sigma today.
The
Kappa Sigma Fraternity is writing its greatest chapter in our
135-year glorious history. No doubt about it, you my brothers have
answered the call. I am satisfied that our best days are ahead and
that next year will be even better.
Thank
you for all that you do. Kappa Sigma is better because of you.
One
Fraternity. One Team. One Kappa Sigma.
AEKDB
On
behalf of the Supreme Executive Committee,
Kevin
S. Kaplan
Worthy Grand Master

THE
KAPPA SIGMA MISSION
The
Fraternity should complement and enhance the educational mission
of the host institution.
The Fraternity is committed to fostering a close cooperative
partnership with all colleges and universities where chapters
exist. The Fraternity should promote academic achievement and
assist each member to achieve his academic potential. By helping
members adjust to the college environment, we can help them pursue
their degree goals. Co-curricular activities can be as valuable as
the classroom experience; hence, the Fraternity should promote
involvement in all aspects of campus life.
The Fraternity should promote the ideal of Brotherhood.
The creation of lifelong friendships is a primary benefit of
Fraternity membership. The Fraternity fulfills the need of
students to belong to an extended family and frequently provides
the opportunity to enhance those personal relationships through
group living situations. As Brothers, our members have an
obligation to have a caring concern for the welfare of our
members. Brotherhood is a lifetime commitment; therefore, we
should encourage strong alumni-undergraduate relationships for the
mutual benefit of the students and the alumni.
The Fraternity should actively contribute to the personal growth
and development of its members.
We teach young men social skills that will benefit them throughout
their lifetime. The multitude of leadership opportunities
available through the Fraternity prepares members for success in
their chosen careers. Chapters should organize well-rounded
programs and strive for excellence and quality in all
undertakings.
The Fraternity should promote ethical behavior and
decision-making.
The lessons taught from Fraternity ritual should be incorporated
into the daily lives of the members. Kappa Sigmas are expected to
act as gentlemen at all times, and the Fraternity must demand the
highest standards of personal conduct. The Fraternity should
instill a sense of responsibility and integrity. The dignity of
all persons shall always be respected; intolerant or abusive
behavior cannot be tolerated.
The Fraternity should encourage service to others.
Members, individually and collectively, should work toward the
betterment of their campus and community... and in so doing
contribute to the betterment of themselves.
